Pawan Sharma joined the Heart Center
in 2001. He previously practiced in Florida, but has enjoyed his lifestyle and colleagues in Salt Lake
City much more. He covers call at St. Marks hospital and alternates weeks in clinic. He also travels to
Tooele regularly for an outreach clinic. His interests are interventional cardiology and nuclear cardiology, and he
is the Director of Nuclear Medicine at the Heart Center.
Dr. Sharma earned his M.B.B.S. at Maulana Azad Medical College, at the University of Delhi,
India, in 1980. In 1982, he was the Junior Resident in Medicine and Ear-Nose-Throat at LNJP Hospital, New
Delhi, India. He then filled a residency in intenal medicine in the coronary care unit from 1983 to 1986. In 1985,
Dr. Sharma earned his Post Graduate Diploma in E.N.T., also at the University of Delhi, India.
Upon completion of this residency, Dr. Sharma opened a private practice in New Delhi, India.
In 1988, Dr. Sharma accepted the opportunity to come to the United
States to pursue a post-doctoral research fellowship in the Department of Physiology at Wayne State University, in Detroit,
Michigan. From 1989-1993 he served as Research Associate and Research Scientist in the Department of Biochemistry, also
at Wayne State University, in Detroit, Michigan.
Upon completion of these studies, Dr. Sharma then pursued an additional residency in internal medicine at
the University of Tennessee, in Memphis - Chattanooga Unit. He then proceeded with his cardiology fellowship from
1996 - 2000, at the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, Utah. After completion of his fellowship, he accepted a postition
in Florida, before settling down in Salt Lake City at the Heart Center.
Dr. Sharma holds licensure in Alabama, Utah, and in Florida. He is board certified by the American
Board in Internal Medicine, in Cardiovascular Diseases and in Interventional Cardiology.
Dr. Sharma is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology
and the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed
journal articles, book chapters and scientific abstracts. He is a Member of the Manuscript Review Board of Hospital
Physician and is a Clinical Reviewer for Contemporary Internal Medicine.
Dr. Sharma is a native of Delhi, India. He enjoys hiking, jogging and traveling. He likes
living in Utah because of its beautiful mountain terrain, surrounding areas, cultural diversity and healthy life style of
this area. He is married and has 1 son.
