Sally Sharp, MD, FACC, FASE
 

Dr. Sally Sharp joined the Heart Center in 1993.  She has been director of echocardiography for the past several years, and gives weekly lectures on current topics in echo.  She became board certified in echocardiography in 1999, she attends national meetings on echo several times a year, and she was elected to Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography.  She specializes in the treatment and evaluation of valvular heart disease.  Her practice is almost entirely outpatient, and she likely sees more clinic patients than any other cardiologist in the state.  She serves on the Board of Directors at St. Marks hospital, and is also the hospital's Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation and the medical director of the EKG panel. 

Dr. Sharp began her career in the medical field by completing her B.S. in Nursing from the University of Colorado in 1975.  After working in the Newborn ICU at the Children's Hospital in Denver Colorado for five years, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio to pursue her M.D. at Case Western Reserve University, which she completed in 1984.  Dr. Sharp also holds a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina, completed in 1990.

Upon completion of her M.D., Dr. Sharp filled an internship at the University Hospitals, in Cleveland, Ohio.  While at the University Hospitals, she also served as Junior Assistant Resident, and then as Senior Assistant Resident of Internal Medicine through 1987.  

From 1987-1990, Dr. Sharp filled a fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Utah.  From 1990-1993, Dr. Sharp served as an Instructor in Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Utah. 

After her teaching, Dr. Sharp became a staff Cardiologist of the Salt Lake Clinic and LDS Hospital.  From 1993 to the present, Dr. Sharp has worked with the Heart Center doing what she loves best - working as a cardiologist.

Dr. Sharp holds many honors and awards.  She received the Teagle Foundation Scholarship and the University of Colorado Scholarship for Academic Achievement.  She is a member of both the Sigma Theta Tau and the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Societies.  From 1980-1984 she was again awarded the Teagle Foundation Scholarship.

Dr. Sharp's professional interests include general cardiology, heart failure, valvular heart disease, preventive cardiology and nuclear imaging.  Dr. Sharp is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Echocardiography.   

Additionally, she enjoys volunteer activities.  She served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association from 1997-1999, and is the Past president of the Utah Division of the AHA.  She currently is on the Board of Directors of the Children of Ethiopia Education Fund (COEEF).

A native of Vernal, Utah, Dr. Sharp loves spending time with her family.  Dr. Sharp and her husband, Lee, have a nine year old daughter, Rachel, and three older children - Andrew, Lizzie and Megan.  The latest addition to the family is Alicea, her first grandchild.  Lee grew up living all over the world, and now he and Dr. Sharp enjoy overseas traveling.  Most recently they traveled to Ethiopia as volunteers for COEEF. 

Additionally, they enjoy hiking, skiing, cooking, movies, and especially books.   They love living in Salt Lake and enjoy many extended family members and friends here.  Sally is pictured in the center, along with her family.
