R. William Mackie, MD, FACC

Dr. William Mackie is one of the earliest members of the Heart Center, and
is known for his attention to detail and extensive clinical experience. He has been director of the nuclear medicine
department, and was the first cardiologist in Salt Lake City to read nuclear cardiac studies. He performs all types
of coronary interventions.
Dr. Mackie graduated from the Cornell University College of Medicine in
1974, then he fulfilled his medical residency at Dartmouth Medical Center. From 1979 to 1981, he served a cardiology fellowship
at the University of Utah. He later received nuclear cardiology training at Wausau Hospital Center in Wisconsin and at the
Mallinkrodt Institute in Cleveland.
Dr. Mackie is Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University
of Utah Medical School and has co-authored several articles for medical journals. He was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and
Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Societies. He has served as president of Utah Young Physicians section of the Utah Medical Association,
chairman of the Utah Environmental Health Committee, and co-chairman of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery
Association's cardiovascular section. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Mackie grew up in Cooperstown, New York. He and his wife have one daughter.
Dr. Mackie enjoys sailing, running marathons and, in his spare time, volunteers as a ski patroller at Alta.
