Edward Ganellen, MD, FACC
Dr. Ed Ganellen has been a member of the Heart Center
since 1994. He has specialty training in echocardiography, and is a champion in "Echo Jeopardy".
He performs coronary interventions and received additional training performing PFO and ASD closures.
Dr. Ganellen is a native of Chicago, Illinois.
He graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, receiving his BSA in Biology and Psychology in 1981.
While there, he was enrolled in the Honors College. He attended the University of Exeter in England, successfully completing
all examinations and receiving full credit from the University of Michigan.
After graduation, Dr. Ganellen attended
the University of Illinois Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine in 1985. Dr. Ganellen filled
his Residency in Internal Medicine at the Michael Reese Medical Center from 1985-1988. He then pursued a Fellowship
in Cardiology at Emory University from 1988-1991. This fellowship included extra months of training in coronary
angiography, echocardiography, and cardiac transplant.
Dr. Ganellen has received numerous honors, including
National Merit Semi-Finalist in 1977, the Francis S. Viele Scholarship, and Alpha Omega Alpha, into which he was elected 1985.
Additionally, Dr. Ganellen was the Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University - VA Medical Center from 1991-1992.
Dr. Ganellen has also participated in numerous research studies and publications.
Dr. Ganellen is a member of Sigma Phi Fraternity,
Alpha Omega Honor Society, and American College of Physicians. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
In 1992, Dr. Ganellen entered into private practice
with Utah Cardiology in Salt Lake City, UT. After two years of clinical practice, Dr. Ganellen recognized
the potential of the Heart Center, and has been here ever since. His wife is a practicing nephrologist in town, and
they have two daughters. He enjoys back country skiing and fine wines.
