Dr. Schorlemmer has strong ties to Texas, where he
attended Texas A&M University in College Station. There he received his BS in Zoology and graduated Summa Cum Laude
in 1974. Dr. Schorlemmer then began his medical education at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in
Dallas, Texas, graduating in 1978.
Upon completion of his initial medical education,
Dr. Schorlemmer pursued his Internship and Residency in General Surgery at the North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel
Hill, North Carolina. While there, he received the Nathan A. Womack Scholarship Award.
In 1983, Dr. Schorlemmer moved west to fulfill a
Residency in Thoracic Surgery at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Upon completion of this residency in 1985, Dr. Schorlemmer
accepted a position as the Attending Surgeon at the St. Mary - Corwin Regional Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado, where he
started the first heart surgery program in Southern Colorado. He was also appointed the Attending Surgeon at the Parkview
Episcopal Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado, starting their heart program as well.
In 1994, Dr. Schorlemmer received an offer to be
the Attending Surgeon at the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was also appointed the Attending
Surgeon at IHC - Cottonwood Medical Center and at Columbia - St. Mark's Medical Center in the same year.
In 1995, Dr. Schorlemmer felt his Texas ties pulling
him away from Utah when he received and accepted an offer to be the Attending Surgeon at the Mercy Regional Medical Center
in Laredo, Texas. There he started the Heart Surgery
program which was immediately recognized as one of the best
in the state.
However, in the summer of 2000, Dr. Schorlemmer received yet another offer to move to Utah, when he joined
the prestigious Heart Center in Salt Lake City.
Dr. Schorlemmer's professional activities are almost
too numerous to list. He has participated in and served as the Chairman on countless committees at the various hospitals
in which he has practiced. He was the Certified Database Administrator, Summit Medical Systems (STS) Database for Thoracic
Surgical Results Tracking and Reporting. He was a Co-Developer of Mobile Physician Billing Software Integrating Palm
Pilot Technology with HBOC Enterprise Database. He was an Instructor for Johnson & Johnson Palmaz Stent Implantation,
and he was the primary investigator for the peripheral Excimer Laser System.
Dr. Schorlemmer
is a member of the American College of Physician Executives, American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, International
Society for Endovascular Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the Womack Surgical Society.
