Implantable Loop Recorder
The implantable loop recorder (Reveal) is a recording device that can monitor
the heart rhythm for over a year. This is typically done for symptoms of passing out, palpitations or other spells that
can not be documented on the Event recorder or Holter monitors. This device is implanted similar to a pacemaker, although
the procedure only takes 20 minutes or so, and wires do not need to be implanted. The device is placed under the skin
below the collar bone, using a local anaesthetic. Once the cause of symptoms is determined, the device is removed.
The loop recorder is about the size of a pack of gum.
